Concerto inedito, registrato a Memphis nel 1975, per i Doobie Brothers, qui in formazione originale, e con in più i Memphis Horns. La band di Johnston e Simmons esegue alcuni classici del proprio repertorio come Long Train Running, Jesus is Just Alright, Rockin' Down The Highway, Without You, Blackwater e China Grove.
The Outsider è stato registrato ad Atlanta, Nashville, Denver ed Austin e mixato da Vance Powell ( che ha lavorato con Sturgill Simpson, Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell e Jack White). Lo stesso Jesse Dayton, parlando del suo disco, dice: Assomiglia molto al disco precedente, The Revealer, ma è più diviso tra brani acustici e canzoni elettriche tese e dirette, con parecchio lavoro di chitarra. Tra le canzoni vengono citate: Changin' My Ways, che trae ispirazione da George Jones, quindi Belly of the Beast, che si rifà a sua volta al suono outlaw country alla Waylon Jennings. E ancora: Charlottesville, molto energica, e May Have To Do It (But I Don't Have to Like It) ed Hurtin' Behind The Pine Curtain, che stanno tra il Texas Blues e lo swamp della Louiisiana.
